Peter Jacob

Meet Peter

A civil and environmental engineering major from Utah.

What do you expect to gain from being a Noblitt Scholar?

I am excited to make lifelong relationships with similar-minded students, professors, and Rose staff. I'm excited to get out in the real world with class projects and future internships.

How do you spend your free time?

I love to play soccer, spend time with family and friends, ski, play basketball, and hike.

What is the nerdiest thing you do?

I love to read science books.

How do you hope to change the world with the knowledge you gain at Rose-Hulman?

I do want to go into a career that will have a large positive impact on people's lives. This is why civil engineering stands out to me as you have the ability to work within communities to better people’s environments. With the hands-on learning structure at Rose along with the Engineers Without Borders club, I feel I will be able to tackle any problem that comes my way. I am interested in the environmental aspect of civil engineering as well and hope to find a job in making places more sustainable.

How did you know Rose was right for you?

I love how class sizes are small and the professors care most about helping and teaching students. This will help turn me into a problem solver because of the collaborative and hands-on environment. When I visited, everybody including staff and students were super kind, outgoing, and helpful. Furthermore, I liked how there are a ton of resources to help students get jobs and internships. There are a few more reasons but these were the ones that stood out to me immediately.
