Course Descriptions

The physics curriculum is designed to develop a strong foundation in classical and modern physics, which will serve as a basis for future specialization, for additional study at the graduate level, and for design and development work in industrial laboratories. The curriculum emphasizes basic physical concepts, and includes extensive work in mathematics and related areas.

PH 314 - Theoretical Mechanics I

Prerequisites: PH 111 - Physics I, and PH 235 - Many-Particle Physics, and MA 212 - Matrix Algebra & Systems of Differential Equations
Corequisites: None

Statics and dynamics of particles and systems of particles, including rigid bodies. Conservation of energy, linear and angular momentum. Central forces. Lagrangian and Hamiltonian equations of motion. Vibrations.
