Description of the session
The study of Riemann surfaces and their groups of
automorphism groups, dating back to Klein and Wiman,
connects deeply with topology, number theory, complex
analysis, and combinatorics through mapping class groups
and the theory of dessins d’enfants. Recent progress has
caused a renaissance in the field in the last few
decades. This session highlights new developments in
this research area and their applications to other areas
of mathematics.
Topics (in no particular order)
- Compact Riemann surfaces and their automorphisms
- Moduli spaces and families of surfaces
- Dessins d’enfant, quasi-platonic surfaces, and Belyi
maps
- Klein surfaces, symmetries, and pseudo-real surfaces
- Genus spectra and strong symmetric genus of groups
- Signatures of group actions
- Mapping class groups and their subgroups
- Hyperelliptic and superelliptic surfaces
- Automorphisms of rational maps P^d -> P^d
- Automorphisms of algebraic surfaces
