Brian Runkle's expertise in finances has moved him into a leadership role at a leading regional east coast bank. The 1990 electrical engineering alumnus has been named senior vice president of transformation and operational excellence for Webster Bank of Waterbury, Conn.

Runkle has more than 20 years of experience in finance, with a variety of experiences within GE Capital. He served as chief operating officer of GE Capital Bank (2008-2011), president and general manager of GE Capital Public Finance from 2004-2007), and managing director of risk, treasury operations and regulatory initiatives (2011-2016). He has a master's of business administration from the College of William and Mary.

"Throughout this career journey, I have learned the key elements of business success: quickly assess your options, decide the correct course of action, put together a quality team and execute the plan," says Runkle, who now lives in Westport, Conn., and works out of Waterbury. "I have felt incredibly stretched in every role in my career. If I feel a little bit uncomfortable in any new role, then I know it is a good fit."

Runkle received the Rose-Hulman Alumni Association's Career Achievement Award in 2010.

With $25.6 billion in assets, Webster Bank provides business and consumer banking, mortgage, financial planning, trust, and investment services through 175 banking centers and 350 ATMs. The bank owns the asset-based lending firm Webster Business Credit Corporation, the equipment finance firm Webster Capital Finance Corporation and HSA Bank, a division providing health savings account trustee and administrative services.
