The FAFSA is a confidential assessment of a family's ability to pay for a student's college education. This collection of personal and financial data is used to establish a family's expected contribution to college costs. The contribution figure is subtracted from the total expense of the college to determine the types and amounts of need-based financial aid for which the student is eligible. You may fill out the form online by using the link in the paragraph above. To sign the FAFSA online, you and one parent must have a FSA ID. You can apply for your FSA ID online. The Rose-Hulman federal school code for FAFSA is 001830.
You do not need to fill out the FAFSA if you wish to be considered only for merit-based scholarships from Rose-Hulman or outside organizations.
Helpful hints on the FAFSA:
We encourage students and parents of dependent students to apply for a FSA ID and to use the FSA ID as the electronic signature when filing your FAFSA online. Both the student and one parent need their own FSA ID.
File online or mail the FAFSA after October 1. The federal processor must receive the FAFSA before the April 15 deadline to be considered for State grants for residents of Indiana.
We recommend printing a copy of the FAFSA Pre-application Worksheet and completing all information before completing the application online. Keep a copy of your application for your records. (Do not complete and refer to a copy of the paper FAFSA, as the order of the paper FAFSA does not correspond with the online FAFSA.)
Highly recommend to use the Data Retrieval Tool (DRT), when filling out the FAFSA. The DRT will transfer your income from the IRS.
When applying online, print out the confirmation number provided at the end of your submission and provide an e-mail address to the federal processor when asked. You will be notified when your application has been processed.
