What is Course Program of Study (CPOS)?
Course Program of Study (CPOS) is a federal and State of Indiana requirement that only courses applicable to a student’s declared program of study, be considered when determining eligibility for federal and State of Indiana financial aid.
For a course to be considered toward a student’s financial aid eligibility, the student must have officially declared the corresponding major or majors. Please note that minors and certificates are not eligible for federal and State of Indiana financial aid.
What Types of Financial Aid Does CPOS Impact?
CPOS applies only to federal and State of Indiana financial aid programs. This includes:
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)
- Federal Direct Stafford Loans
- Federal Parent PLUS Loans
- Indiana 21st Century Scholars Grant
- Indiana Frank O’Bannon Grant
- State of Indiana Incentive Grants
CPOS does not impact eligibility for Rose-Hulman institutional financial aid, including Rose-Hulman Merit Scholarships, Rose-Hulman Endowed Scholarships, and Rose-Hulman Grants.
How Do I Know If I Am Impacted by This Rule?
Students who are impacted by the Course Program of Study (CPOS) requirement will receive an email notifying them that they are considered less than full-time for financial aid purposes because one or more of their courses do not apply toward their declared program of study.
If this is incorrect, students should contact the Registrar’s Office to have their courses reviewed and, if appropriate, updated to reflect their program of study. Once the course information has been updated, the Financial Aid Office will reevaluate the student’s financial aid eligibility. Any eligible financial aid will then be applied to the student’s account.
