How did Rose help get you where you are today?
Rose gave me the education I needed to approach problems of any kind. I just chose to apply them to the problems encountered with video production/owning a small business.
MOST VALUABLE LESSON YOU LEARNED ON THAT JOB?
Be passionate about the problem, not the solution.
WHAT ROSE PROF HAD THE BIGGEST IMPACT ON YOUR LIFE?
Dr. Haan was one of the more influential teachers I had while at Rose. He had so much passion that he imparted into every class, and I think seeing that passion made it so easy to come to class no matter how stressed I was with a little excitement for what he had to teach. He made me want to have that passion in my work too.
What’s your favorite/lasting memory from Rose?
My favorite memory from Rose was just all the friendships I made. The bonds I made with students at Rose have been some of the strongest friendships of my life.
What is the nerdiest thing you do these days?
I’m totally that guy that pauses a movie to talk about how cool the camera move was or the lighting technique when everyone else in the room just wants to watch the movie.
What's the best-kept secret about Rose?
Rose’s best-kept secret is that people are SO willing to help you out. I remember them encouraging us that you can ask faculty or fellow students or SA’s or RA’s for help with understanding concepts, and I think there were so many students, myself included that just assumed that was one of those things that every school says but doesn’t mean. Turns out, they really meant it. I guess that doesn’t make it much of a secret then...
ADVICE TO INCOMING ROSE-HULMAN STUDENTS?
Use your time at Rose to not only learn what’s being taught directly, but to learn about yourself, your friends, their interests, and more about life.
