Developing STEM Identity Through Story

The narratives we tell ourselves influence our thoughts and actions. However, STEM students may not even be aware of these internalized narratives and how they affect them. In many cases, students are subjected to a rigorous technical curriculum soon after they step foot on campus and may question if they belong in STEM or in higher education at all.

Storytelling allows us to better understand ourselves, practice empathy for others’ perspectives, influence the world around us in positive ways, and build connections across cultures, time and experiences.

And that’s our goal here at Story@Rose: inspire current and future STEM students to develop their identities as engineers and scientists.

Join Rose students and alumni in their adventures and reflections on overcoming failures and defying expectations, celebrating their shining moments, learning the value of mentorship, among other life explorations. We all have stories to tell, and they are worth sharing!
