Musically-minded students at Rose-Hulman find ample opportunities for creative expression through musical ensembles, dance troupes, and drama clubs. Rose-Hulman's Hatfield Hall is a hub for students passionate about all aspects of live performances, including both onstage and crew roles, and the annual Student Performing Arts series offers a variety of productions for students to showcase their passion.

"At Rose-Hulman, where excellence in science, engineering, and mathematics is the foundation, the performing arts offer a vital balance that enriches both personal growth and academic success," said Dan Tryon, director of Hatfield Hall and student performing arts. "Engaging in music, theater, and other performance disciplines fosters creativity, emotional intelligence, and communication – skills that are essential for innovative problem-solving and effective teamwork. The performing arts not only enhance campus culture but also help develop well-rounded engineers and scientists who are prepared to lead with both technical expertise and human insight."

Rose-Hulman student ensembles are open to students of any major and year. Nearly 350 individual Rose-Hulman students participate in performing arts each year, with several students involved with multiple organizations, putting a unique community center stage.

Lainie Lawrence, a 2025 chemical engineering graduate who performed in several Rose Drama Club productions while she was a student, found performing arts at Rose-Hulman to be a program like no other.

"These are dedicated kids who are taking time out of their busy schedules because this makes them happy and this is their passion," she said.

This year's Student Performing Arts series spans genres and performance media. From smash Broadway hits, to swinging jazz tunes, to hip-hop dance, the 2025-2026 Student Performing Arts series will bring joy to every performance lover.

The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it, BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out-of-this-world origins and intent towards global domination!

"The Crucible," a play by Arthur Miller, is a dramatized account of the Salem witch trials of 1692 in Massachusetts. The play focuses on the paranoia and hysteria that gripped the town, fueled by accusations of witchcraft and religious fervor. The story follows John Proctor, a farmer, and his wife Elizabeth, as they are caught in the midst of the trials, with Abigail Williams, a former servant, manipulating the situation.

Engineers in Concert

Engineers in Concert was started in 1981 by Dr. Joan Singer Spicknall and then-student David Dvorak as an evening highlighting the talents of Rose-Hulman students, faculty, and staff. The show features all genres of fine performing arts, from classical, jazz, folk, and sacred music to juggling and dance.
