The Department of Chemical Engineering has announced the winners of the Noel E. Moore Achievement Award for the fall quarter 2023-2024.

The winners are sophomore Andrew (Drew) A. Cameron, junior Freya B. Blomquist, and senior Eric S. Kennedy.

Each quarter, the department recognizes academic excellence on the part of our students. The awards are named in memory of Professor Noel E. Moore, an outstanding educator and faculty leader on campus for 30 years. Moore served for a decade as head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, was an early leader of Operation Catapult, and was a key advocate for making the institute co-educational. He was named an emeritus faculty member after his retirement in 1998. He passed away in 2018.

Andrew (Drew) A. Cameron (Sophomore)

Drew Cameron is recognized for his attentiveness and eager participation in the classroom. Dr. Kim Henthorn, department head and associated professor, said that professors note that Drew asks great questions and brings a positive attitude to class every day. Besides academics, "Drew is heavily involved with many extracurriculars, including AIChE, Greek life, and soccer," Henthorn said. "Congratulations, Drew!"

Freya B. Blomquist (Junior)

Freya Blomquist is recognized for her dedication to her work and her willingness to take the initiative to deepen her education and broaden her horizons. "In addition to organizing a semester abroad, Freya is an attentive and conscientious student, always willing to answer questions and help elevate the learning experience in the classroom," Henthorn said. "Great work, Freya!"

Eric S. Kennedy (Senior)

Eric Kennedy is being recognized for his excellent contributions to the classroom environment, academic perseverance, and positive attitude. "Eric is extremely engaged in classroom discussions, and his contributions show his own understanding while promoting the same in others," Henthorn noted. "Furthermore, he demonstrates a dedication to constant improvement and deep comprehension in his coursework. Beyond academics, Eric is the president of the campus Magic: the Gathering Club. Keep up the great work, Eric!"
