Course goal: investigate “what doing research” is all about. We’ll accomplish that by simulating life as a computer science graduate student in a research group studying machine game-playing.
To do that, we will do 2 projects, each lasting about 5 weeks. We'll divide into teams of six or seven (I'll pick the teams, with your input.) Each team will, for each project:
- Meet with me to discuss several journal articles on a particular topic. Every team member reads the articles, each team member presents some portion of the articles.
- Identify research questions that arise from the reading.
- Design a mini-research project that will answer some of those questions by applying the ideas in the articles to a particular game.
- Carry out the mini-research project. (Write code, run experiments.)
- Report results from the mini-research project.
Prerequisites: CS 413 (Artificial Intelligence), or my permission. |
