This freshman level course is the first step on the road to engineering analysis. It is concerned with simple mechanical systems in static equilibrium. Students are taught to identify systems and understand the force interactions between them and the outside world. Forces and moments of forces are balanced to discover the conditions for static equilibrium. Other topics in the course include the calculations of centroids.
