The Department of Chemical Engineering at Rose-Hulman is dedicated to providing our students with the highest quality education to prepare them for a successful career in the many exciting areas of chemical engineering. The faculty and staff are committed to the professional and intellectual development of our students. Our mission includes the provision of a balanced education to enable our students to practice in the dynamic and progressive chemical engineering profession. Students not only gain the necessary technical skills but also develop an appreciation of their responsibility to their colleagues in industry, the community and the world.

Chemical Engineering is an exciting, multifaceted discipline that offers a well paid career in an ever changing market. It is a broad field amenable to numerous industries, such as biochemical, biomedical, chemical, environmental, food, materials, paper and pulp, petroleum, pharmaceutical, polymers, and semiconductors. Because of the breadth of their technical and scientific background, chemical engineers are often referred to as "universal" engineers. Many fields that require technical training are open to chemical engineers. Their expertise has been invaluable in areas such as law, education, finance, and medicine.

Chemical engineers utilize their knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and engineering principles to address technical problems safely and economically. A range of challenging technical problems, from devising completely new chemical processes to designing products to improving existing processes, are encountered by the chemical engineer. By applying their technical knowledge and training, and the most up-to-date practices available, these challenges are met successfully.
