Session 1 is over! We had a great time seeing all of the completed projects on Friday; a final roundup of pictures will be posted sometime today.

It's getting toward crunch time! Groups started printing out their project report posters today and continued to put the finishing touches on their design during group project time. Some of the walk on water groups got a chance to test their creations in Speed Lake in the afternoon (none of them sank!).

After that, we had a rockin' time at IMs with both volleyball (indoor) and ultimate frisbee (outdoor). In addition to the standard Catamonkey games, we had a series of Counselor v. Catamonkey games with 5 of the IM teams; the counselors defended their honor by winning all 5 games, but more challenges will occur as the week progresses!

I hope the monkeys got their rest on Sunday because we are in overdrive here at Catapult. On top of that, we had a completely inappropriate usage of hands over the weekend. Connor D. and Lauren S. were caught holding hands in one of the counselor’s rooms during a movie. And as we all know, holding hands can only lead to one thing. CRABS! So we taped their hands into lobster hands and whenever any counselor acknowledged them for the rest of the day they had to do their best Dr. Zoidberg impersonation (

Find memory cards. Check.

Upload pictures. Check.

Run thumbnail scripts. Check.

And yet... the photos just aren't there :(.

Just kidding.

Sunday was a day of excitement for few, competition for others, and relaxation for all. Some of the monkeys went to Chicago for some sightseeing and delicious pizza. Others chose to stay a bit closer to home and went to Indianapolis for some ice skating and duck pin bowling. I am still confused as to what duck pin bowling is exactly, but it sounds awesome and everyone had a great time. If big cities didn't tickle your fancy, we took a large group of the campers to a paintballing facility where they could paint beautiful murals of (paintball) guts and glory on the opponents.

But for the few left standing, or more likely sleeping, Sunday was a way to recharge those batteries for the final week. I hope you rested up, because we got one final sprint!

It's Saturday! At some other camps, that'd be sleep in day. Not at Catapult, though! All the monkeys (actually, all but 3 to be exact) were awake and on time to morning meeting - we have an amazing amount of early risers this session! After some morning project time, we had a great afternoon of tournaments organized by Melton, starting with a huge Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament and including a ping-pong tournament and a Super Smash Bros. tournament as well. We also watched the World Cup game between the USA and Ghana on all 5 screens and surround sound in Chauncey's (Rose's game room, named after Chauncey Rose, our founder); much to almost everyone's disappointment (we did have one or two monkeys rooting for Ghana) the US is now out of the Cup; nonetheless, fans like Nicholas and Eric will still be following the Cup for those interested in watching other matches.

Check after the break for off-campus activities that happened today!

Photos coming as soon as I finish collecting memory cards!

Today was a busy day for projects, with project time lasting the entire academic day. A bunch of students went to Rose-Hulman Ventures in the afternoon for a tour of that facility.

After dinner, some students went to Indy to see ComedySportz (an improvisational comedy show), some went to see the movie Grown-Ups, and some went for a second round of laser tag.

Current IM scores (and teams) after the break!

Large picture update coming later tonight.

Aloha from... Indiana? Today was Hawaiian Day, as evidenced by large amounts of floral print that appeared at today's morning meeting. Today was also "Chemistry through the ages" day, where one of Rose's Chemistry professors does pretty much every awesome chemistry trick in the book while detailing the history of chemistry from alchemy forward.

Huge picture update posted!

Woot! I'm all caught up! (Woot's actually an interesting choice of words right now... seeing as there's a Woot-Off going on! Check it out here. If there aren't little siren lights around the product picture... you missed it :(. Woot-offs are a college student's dream; they have awesome stuff for cheap. Read what Wikipedia says here.) Sorry for the delay between updates; it's been a really busy week with all the awesome stuff we've been doing!

For any new readers, make sure to click Read More at the bottom of each day's update; usually there's more to see "after the break"!

Today was fairly standard as far as project/lecture times go. Tonight we had indoor soccer down in the SRC, which was a blast. A lot of students have noticed that for a "nerd" camp, a lot of people here are actually pretty competitive with regards to athletics. It's the same way during the school year (we actually have different IM leagues for different groups of people... A league is for the competitive guys, C league is for the people who just want to have some fun during the week, and B league is right in between). The teams ended up pretty fair as well: at least 3 of the teams had 1 win and 1 loss at the end of the day today. Detailed IM results to come at the end of the week!

Massive picture update for this week coming tomorrow (Thursday)!

Can you dig it? Today was the totally groovy 70's day, complete with leopard print (but no bell bottoms... even at Goodwill :( ). Today was a break from some of the normal project time during the day for presentations on college admissions as well as faculty lectures in the afternoon. After dinner, we braved the Valley heat to play some kickball down on the baseball fields in the southwest corner of campus. Despite that heat, everyone seemed to have a great time.

We also had our first plant trip of the session, with 5 vans heading down to Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana (TMMI) down near Evansville in the southwest corner of the state. It was a pretty awesome tour; guides at the facility drove all the students who went through the plant, showing them the construction of the Toyota Sienna from raw metal to final quality inspection.

It was also Tasty Treat Tuesday, so a caravan went to Tropical Sno (Tro-Sno) for some sno-cones and other sugary deserts.
