Broad research and development background: development of optics-based products; optical instrument design and prototypes; fiber optic components and systems; fiber optic sensors; optical fiber measurements and characterization; image acquisition and processing; optical image processing systems and development of optical inspection systems. Computer modeling optical properties of materials. Particulate sizes using laser light scattering. Optical absorption, fluorescence and Faraday rotation in materials. Experience with lasers, optical microscopy, furnaces, cryogenics and vacuum systems. Author or co-author of 21 publications. Taught short courses/workshops on radiometry and photometry, color measurement, fiber optics, optical information processing and lasers. Taught optical engineering, applied optics, physics, and product development courses. Developed courses/labs for B.S. (Optical Engineering) and M.S. (Optical Engineering) degree programs. Faculty mentor for M.S.(Engineering Management) Integrated Project teams. Directed 24 completed masters degree thesis projects. Project team leader or Principal Investigator on 10 industrial contracts.
