Constitution for Students Against Waste
  • Purpose
    • 1. The members of Students Against Waste (from now on SAW) believe:
      • A. The earth is an important part of our lives.
      • B. Individuals can make a difference.
      • C. There is always room for improvement in the condition of the environment.
    • 2. The purpose of SAW is to:
      • A . Start or improve programs on campus to help the environment.
    • 3. The purpose of SAW is NOT to:
      • A. Represent a political group or view. We represent our own views.
      • B. Be a violent group. We will make change peacefully.
  • II. Officers
    • 1. Initially there shall be three officers.
      • A. President: The president will write the agendas and preside over all meetings. He/She will also represent the club at events and official business of the school; such as SGA meetings. He/She must also distribute new duties that arise to general members, other officers, or suggest that a new office be created.
      • B. Vice-President: The vice-president will organize all of the group activities and act in place of the president when he/she is not available.
      • C. Secretary: The secretary will keep minutes at all meetings and keep track of member attendance. He/She is in charge of publicizing all group activities that are for the entire campus to participate in.
    • 2. Each officer can have a committee of general members to them
    • 3. New offices will be created when necessary. The creation of a new office must be approved by a two-thirds vote of members present at the meeting.
    • 4. New officers will be elected by the following guidelines:
      • A. Potential officers will be nominated by other members.
      • B. Nominations will be held at least one week before elections.
      • C. Elections will be held in the middle of the spring quarter.
      • D. The person with the most votes wins.
  • III. Membership
    • 1. To be a member of SAW, one must:
      • A. Be a student.
      • B. Believe the statements in part I.1 of the constitution.
  • IV. Activities and Meetings
    • 1. Attendance is never required to continue being a member.
    • 2. All members are encouraged to participate actively and enthusiastically. They should speak their opinions openly and everyone will consider others’ thoughts with an open mind.
