Meetings will resume at the beginning of the 2008-2009 academic year, a regular schedule will be determined after the informational meeting for new members.

Currently & Upcoming:

Permanent Layout

Most activities revolve about designing and constructing the new layout.  Track laying has commenced, and we will begin wiring and testing as the year progresses.  This is an exciting time; we are in the midst of all aspects of layout construction, from benchwork to scenery.  We have a general layout plan, which consists of a 2 deck layout which wraps around the walls of our 24'x20'6" room.  The actual track plan is only finalized as needed, however, the layered nature of the layout allows us to to lay track before other parts have been finalized.  A deck in the club room represents the primary constraint on the layout, and we have begun building a peninsula along the edge of the deck.

The layout will resemble contemporary western Indiana.  Accordingly, we like to stay modern at RHIT and so the layout will feature Digital Command Control, most likely by Digitrax.  The layout plan and a more detailed description may be viewed under "New Layout" as updates become available.

Portable Display Layout

We are in the midst of constructing a 4'x8' display layout to set up around campus from time to time.  The track plan is capable of supporting 3 trains at once in DCC operation.  We have completed the trackwork, and when the scenery is complete it will resemble the early 20th century.

The Usual:

We still have many buildings and pieces of rolling stock which need to be assembled.  Furthermore, we have located a gold mine of unassembled cars we didn't know we had!

In order to facilitate DCC operation we also need to begin compiling data on the current draw, starting voltage, and other factors of most of our locomotives.

The Model Railroad Club is sponsored by the RHIT Student Government Association.
