Alums love the BEEJ’s

The Rose Thorn

It’s unanimous: Rose alumni love BEEJ’s. Although it’s hard to find any BEEJ’s on the Rose campus, encounters with this multi-acronym are nearly ubiquitous in the real world.

I happened to overhear many conversations on the topic of BEEJ’s at this year’s Homecoming; I couldn’t believe how many BEEJ stories our alumni had.

For some alums, BEEJ’s were an integral part of their careers:

“When I started work, my job was to inform the public about what engineers do. I found my ‘people-skills’ were critical for this; I had to rely on BEEJ’s (Bringing Engineering to Everyone Journalists) to advance my career. For me, BEEJ’s were the key to climbing the corporate ladder.”

“I got my first BEEJ (Bachelor in Electrical Engineering Job) straight out of college... I’ve had several BEEJ’s since then, but I’ll never forget the first.”

“The first BEEJ I had to do wasn’t a pleasant experience. Sometimes when you’re in an uncomfortable situation like that, you just have to close your eyes, keep going, and try to think happy thoughts until it’s over.”

“As a marine biologist, my job is to get BEEJ’s (Borederline Extinct Edible Jellyfish) on the beach.”

“When people found out I could give good BEEJ’s (Board of Environmental Engineering Justifications), I was a very popular guy.”

Others incorporated BEEJ’s into their recreational lives:

“I bought a BEEJ (Brand-new Extra Exciting Jet-ski) last week. It wasn’t cheap, but I don’t think I’ll ever get another BEEJ that’s wetter or wilder. And trust me, I’m a connoisseur when it comes to BEEJ’s.”
