Senior computer programming engineer Adam Effinger was chosen to compete in the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships on March 20-22. The event will be hosted by the College of Wooster and held at Miami University of Ohio in Oxford, Ohio. Effinger will be competing in three events at the meet, including the 50-yard freestyle on Thursday the 20, the 100-yard butterfly on Friday the 21, and the 200-yard butterfly on Saturday the 22.
Effinger qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships when he swam a time of 50.61 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Meet (CCIW) on February 14-16. Effinger was originally selected as the first alternate to the NCAA Championships, but received his spot when one relay swimmer was withdrawn.
2008 will be the second time in his career that Effinger will be competing in the NCAA Division III National Championships. He previously earned ninth-place honors in the 100-yard butterfly and finished 15th in the 200-yard butterfly at the 2006 Championships. Effinger’s career highlights include five All-Conference honors in three different swimming leagues. He captured the 2006 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events and captured runner-up honors in the 100-yard butterfly in the CCIW meet in 2008.
In addition, Effinger holds school records in the 100-yard (50.19) and 200-yard butterfly events (1:53.03), along with a share of marks in the 200-medley, 400-freestyle and 800-freestyle relays.
