A new quarter, a new start

Spring quarter has begun on campus. Spring quarter always brings about a variety of mixed emotions. While the seniors are excited about finishing their undergraduate degrees, there is a bittersweet sentiment associated with leaving Rose-Hulman and being away from friends as students scatter all over the world. Spring quarter brings about many changes as students begin new classes with new topics and expectations. Many students enjoy the pleasant weather usually present during the second half of the quarter.

While school is in session, many Rose-Hulman students are constantly looking forward to the next break from classes. However, at the end of the break, students are often anxious to come back to campus to spend time with friends and take part in various extra-curricular activities.
Senior biomedical engineering major Michael Lockhart had other reasons to be happy about coming back to Rose.
“I’m glad to be back at school because over break my car got broken into, and I got stranded in Florida!”

Many students are excited about the upcoming warm weather associated with the spring season. The warmer weather provides the opportunity for additional social activities on campus including cookouts and outdoor sporting events. Sophomore optical engineering major Meredith Woodard stated, “I can’t get too excited about spring until it stops snowing.”

With the new quarter comes new classes. Freshman optical engineering major Tyler McKean explained, “I am so glad it is Spring Quarter. Winter classes were getting old and it is nice to have new classes.” Most students are excited about opportunities provided by the new classes. Others dread classes with reputations of being hard or work-intensive. Adam Lusk, a sophomore mechanical engineering major, stated, “I am really glad to be out of Mechanical Systems, but now I have ADES [Analysis and Design of Engineering Systems]. Oh well.”
