On Friday April 20, a retirement ceremony was held at White Chapel in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Bruce Guggenberger. Lieutenant Colonel Guggenberger became the Professor of Military Science at Rose-Hulman on June 28, 2003. Since then, he has led the Wabash Battalion to a ranking of 2 out of 270 schools on the national order of merit list. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Master Parachutist Badge. He has served in Germany, the Middle East and Fort Bragg in addition to his time here at Rose-Hulman.

The ceremony opened with the playing of the National Anthem and an Invocation. Colonel James Coates was the guest speaker for the event. Colonel Coats commended Lieutenant Colonel Guggenberger on his hard work and honors. He also praised his family for adapting to the military life style in which one’s family has to move often. After Colonel Coates spoke, Lieutenant Colonel Guggenberger was presented with his retirement order. To end the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Guggenberger presented his family with gifts.
