Waltman out at StateIndiana State University will begin the hunt for a new head basketball coach this off-season. Former coach Royce Walton announced that he had been fired toward the end of the 2007 season after the sixth straight losing season. Walton got the news before his Sycamores played in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. He believes that the situation could have been handled better by the administration but is not upset. Waltman led ISU to the NCAA tournament in the 2000 and 2001 seasons but has had little success since then. The Indiana State Sycamores finished 12-16 this season, with a record of 5-12 within the Missouri Valley Conference.
Big Green in Big DanceThe University of North Texas Big Green earned their spot in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament by beating the Arkansas State Indians in the Sun Belt Conference tournament championship on Tuesday. North Texas took the tournament over Arkansas State in a well-played game that ended with a final score of 83-75. This marks the first time the Big Green has made it to the NCAA tournament since 1988. North Texas’ Calvin Watson led the offensive charge with a 24 point explosion including six 3-pointers. The Indians’ Isaac Wells also had a good offensive night with 21 points but it was not enough to quench the Big Green offense.
