Swimmers benefit from exhausting trip

Rachel Howser

Over winter break, the Rose-Hulman swim team traveled to Pensacola Beach, Florida for a winter training session. The six-day session included two brutal practices a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The team was free to enjoy themselves and bond during the rest of the day. The last practice included an optional mile-long swim in the open waters of the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 100 meters from shore. The water was a chilly 59 degrees and the air was not much warmer. Junior Amber Jackson stated, “The swim was optional, but those of us who attempted and finished the swim were very proud of ourselves-we had accomplished a feat that few people can claim to have done.” She continued, “Overall, the trip was hard on our bodies, but was salve for our spirits and boosted our resolve to finish out the season as hard as we started it.”

The swim team has been performing well this season. On January 13, they brought home nine first place finished in addition to the eleven they brought home on December 9. The swim team’s season will continue with a home meet against DePauw on January 24 at 7 p.m. I encourage you all to come out to support the swim team and join SGA in a tailgating event.
