Heat lose big in season openerThe Miami Heat lost to the Chicago Bulls by a score of 108-66 on opening night last Tuesday. The Bulls beat the Heat in what would be the largest margin of victory against a defending world champion, 42 points. The previous record for largest margin of victory against a defending champion came on October 29, 1982 when the Golden State Warriors beat the Los Angeles Lakers by a score of 132-117, a difference of 15 points. The Lakers returned to the NBA finals later that season.
Pair of Tigers win Gold GlovesKenny Rogers and Ivan Rodriguez of the American League Champion Detroit Tigers won Gold Glove postseason awards which were announced Thursday. This is the fifth time that Rogers has earned a Gold Glove at his pitching position, and the twelfth time Rodriguez has earned the distinction behind the plate. Other notable Gold Glovers include Texas Rangers first-baseman Mark Texiera, New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter, Oakland Athletics third baseman Eric Chavez, and Minnesota Twins outfielder Torii Hunter.
