  Rose-Hulman News Rose-Hulman Handles Centre in Spring Tennis Opener
 

Julie Hopkins finished 2-0 with wins in singles and doubles.

NEW ALBANY, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman women's tennis team opened its spring season with an 8-1 victory over Centre College on Saturday afternoon at IU-Southeast.

Freshman Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) and freshman Julie Hopkins (Terre Haute/Northview/ Saddlebrook Academy) each won in singles play and teamed up for a doubles victory to lead the Rose-Hulman effort.

Other singles winners included junior Mandy Grantz (Rapid City, S.D.) at No. 3; sophomore Katy Zawadski (Yorktown) at No. 4; sophomore Betsy Marschand (Galveston/ Lewis Cass) at No. 5; and junior Amanda Gehring (Lyons/White River Valley) at No. 6.

Junior Danielle Steinke (Crystal Lake, Ill.) and freshman Janna Farrell (Rocky River, Ohio) earned the final point with a No. 3 doubles victory.

Rose-Hulman improved to 12-5 overall and 1-0 in its spring season with the victory. The Engineers host DePauw University on Thursday at 5 p.m.
