Sam Danesis Named HCAC Most
Valuable Player; Julie Hopkins Earns First-Team All-League Honors
Freshman Julie Hopkins (Terre Haute/Northview/ Saddlebrook Academy) joined Danesis as a first-team all-conference award winner. Danesis compiled a 16-2 singles record this fall and a 15-2 doubles mark for the Engineers. Her efforts included perfect 11-0 records in singles and doubles play against HCAC opposition. Danesis currently ranks No. 2 on Rose-Hulman's single-season list for singles wins with 16, with several spring season matches remaining. Her combined 31 wins this season snapped the school record of 26 set by Alison Bailey, who finished 18-7 in singles play in 1999-00. Hopkins finished 10-4 at the No. 2 singles spot and recorded an 11-3 overall doubles record. The duo of Danesis and Hopkins finished 9-1 at the No. 1 doubles position. The 10 singles wins for Hopkins ranks fourth on the Engineer single-season list. Rose-Hulman finished second in the HCAC this season, in both the league tournament and regular season play. The Engineers compiled an 11-5 fall season record, after the team finished 1-8 last year. |
