BOX SCORE

ST. MARY-WOODS, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology women's soccer team earned its first victory of the season and sixth straight over St. Mary-of-the-Woods College with a 3-0 victory on a soggy Thursday afternoon.

Junior Molly Richardson (Orange Park, Fla./St. John's Country Day) led the Engineer offense with two goals and one assist.  Sophomore Anna Vogel (East Greenwich, R.I./LaSalle Academy) also scored on the afternoon for Rose-Hulman.

The goalkeeping duo of sophomore Julie Brennan (Indianapolis/Pike) and freshman Whitney Baenziger (Danville) combined on the first shutout of the season.  The victory also marked the first in the collegiate coaching career of head coach Amy Helliwell.

Rose-Hulman scored all three of its goals in the first half to secure the victory.  Richardson started the scoring at 15:00 on a tally in front on a double assist from junior Annmarie Stanley (Warrenville, Ill./Rosary) and senior Monica Guzik (Avon, Ohio/Padua Franciscan)

Vogel scored five minutes later on an assist from Richardson and freshman Amy Schleter (Knoxville, Tenn./Karns).  Richardson rounded out the scoring on an unassisted goal on a direct free kick after a St. Mary-of-the-Woods foul.

Rose-Hulman outshot The Woods 27-4 in the contest and held a 15-2 edge in corner kicks.  Richardson led the offense with 10 shots, including eight on goal.  Junior Eli Baca (Santa Fe, N.M.) added five shots, including four on goal.

April Baranowski kepted St. Mary-of-the-Woods within striking distance with an impressive 15 saves in net.  Four Pomeroys each recorded one shot in the match.

Rose-Hulman stands 1-7 on the season and returns to action at Defiance College on Saturday.  St. Mary-of-the-Woods dropped to 3-5-1 overall.
