HANOVER, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman women's
soccer team secured the first regular season conference
championship in the history of women's athletics at the college
with a 1-0 victory at Hanover College on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman improved to 17-2 on the season with
its school record 14th consecutive victory. The Engineers
finished a perfect 8-0 in league play to claim the first men's
or women's soccer regular season conference title in school
history.
Against Hanover, junior Jen Lyman (Irwin,
Pa./Penn Trafford) scored the lone goal of the match in the
82nd minute to snap a scoreless tie. Lyman scored courtesy
of the school record setting 21st assist of the season by senior
Jennifer Gordon (Zionsville).
Senior Rachel Miller (Spring, Texas/Klein
Collins) earned the shutout in goal by recording three
saves.
The Engineers outshot Hanover 12-4 in the match,
with Gordon's five shots on goal leading Rose-Hulman's efforts.
Rose-Hulman has earned the top seed for the
upcoming HCAC Tournament, which will begin Wednesday at Jim
Rendel Field. The Engineers will host fourth seed
Manchester, while Mount St. Joseph travels to Transylvania in
the other semifinal matchup.
The winning team in the four-squad tournament
will capture the HCAC automatic bid into the NCAA Division III
Tournament.
