  Rose-Hulman News Berumen, Goble Earn All-HCAC Honors to Lead Tri-Meet

TERRE HAUTE, IND. The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology wresting team placed junior Tyler Goble (Bloomington/South) and junior Rey Berumen (Indianapolis/Warren Central) on the all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference team on Friday.

 

Goble compiled a perfect 2-0 record at 165 pounds to improve to 18-4 overall this season and win the weight class at the HCAC Tri-Meet at Rose-Hulman.

 

Berumen added a 2-0 mark in the heavyweight division, including a pin of Mount St. Joseph's Pat Thatcher.  He topped Spencer Fulk of Manchester by a 5-4 count.

 

Manchester defeated the Engineers by a 24-21 count in the opening match, and Mount St. Joseph won its match over Rose-Hulman by a 37-12 mark.

 

Mount St. Joseph won the conference championship with a 28-22 victory over Manchester.  Elliott Spence was named HCAC Wrestler of the Year, with Lions coach Casey Stouffer earning league Coach of the Year accolades.

 

Other winners for Rose-Hulman included freshman Chris Duncan (Terre Haute/South) in a forfeit against Manchester, and freshman Eric Schulte (Centreville, Va./Westfield) with a win by disqualification against the Spartans.

 

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the 2008 NCAA Division III Wrestling Regionals at Wabash College next weekend.
