STATS
BLUFFTON, OHIO. -- The Rose-Hulman volleyball team
came back from a 2-0 deficit before losing in the first round of
the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament to
Defiance 3-2 on Saturday.
Defiance jumped out to the
early lead by winning the first two games, 25-20, 25-23.
Rose-Hulman then won the next two sets 25-20, 25-22 but couldn't
hold on to the momentum as they dropped the fifth set 15-11.
The Engineers were led by
freshman Anna Lewer (Indianapolis, Ind./ Lutheran) who
led the team with 14 kills. She also had two aces in the
match.
Sophomore Morgan
Williams (Fenton, Mich./Powers Catholic) and sophomore
Karah Hickman (Hobart, Ind) each picked up 13 kills.
Sophomore Leah Pelzel
(Loveland, Ohio/ Mount Notre Dame) led the team with 45
assists.
Defensively, junior
Samantha Gregory (Huntsville, Ala/ Catholic) paced the team
with 20 digs. Lewer contributed 16 digs while senior
Kate Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill/ Marian Central Catholic)
notched 14 digs of her own. Williams also picked up five
total blocks to assist the defensive effort.
The volleyball team
finishes the season with a record of 20-13. The 20 wins
marks the first time in school history a Rose-Hulman volleyball
team compiled 20 victories in a season.
