  Rose-Hulman News Volleyball Defeats Grove City, Falls Twice in Busy Day
 

Junior Samantha Gregory had 33 digs and six aces in three matches Saturday.

CRESTVIEW HILLS, KY. -- Rose-Hulman volleyball ended 1-2 Saturday after a busy day of playing at two different places.

The first match of the day was against conference foe Mount St. Joseph in a battle for a top spot in conference.  The Engineers came up short as they fell 3-1  in the matchup.

Rose-Hulman was led by freshman Anna Lewer (Indianapolis, Ind./ Lutheran) who smashed 16 kills in the match.  She also led the team with seven aces and also helped out defensively as she had 19 digs.

Sophomore Morgan Williams (Fenton, Mich./ Poweres Catholic) and sophomore Karah Hickman (Hobart, Ind) contributed eight kills each in the match. 

Sophomore Leah Pelzel (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team with 31 assists and also led with 21 digs.  Junior Samantha Gregory (Huntsville, Ala./Catholic) picked up 16 digs. 

For the second and third matches, the team traveled to the Thomas More College Invitational.

Their first match of the Invitational gave the Engineers their victory for the day as they defeated Grove City 3-1 by scores of 25-13, 22-25, 25-21, 26-24. 

Lewer again led the team with 13 kills.  She also picked up 15 digs and had two more aces. 

Hickman chipped in with 10 kills while Williams picked up another  nine and also lead the team with two solo blocks.

Pelzel led the team again in assists with 41.  She also led the team with 21 digs.  Gregory had 15 digs and led the team with four aces.  Freshman Priscilla Magee (Princeton, Ind.) contributed 12 digs in the effort.

The final match of the day saw the Engineers face Bethany in a 3-1 defeat by the scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-27, 20-25. 

Lewer once again led the team with 12 kills.  She also picked up 20 more digs and two more aces in the match.

Williams contributed nine kills while junior Amanda Jevons (Henderson, Nev./Rancho) picked up eight and also led the team with four aces.

Pelzel again led the team with 34 assists and 22 digs.  Gregory chipped in 12 digs of her own and added two aces. 

Rose-Hulman ends the weekend with a 19-10 record, 4-2 in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference returns to action on the road with an HCAC matchup with Anderson Tuesday night.
