  Rose-Hulman News Volleyball Tops Wilmington, Falls to Mount Union on Friday

WILMINGTON, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology tied its single-season school record for volleyball wins by defeating Wilmington College in three sets and falling to regionally ranked Mount Union in three sets in a pair of Friday non-conference matches.

Mount Union topped the Engineers 25-18, 25-21, 25-22, before Rose-Hulman bounced back to top Wilmington 25-19, 25-19, 26-24.

Unofficially, sophomore Karah Hickman (Hobart) led the Engineers with 13 kills and three blocks in the Wilmington victory.  Freshman Anna Lewer (Indianapolis/ Lutheran) added 11 kills and tied for team-high honors with nine digs.

Senior Kate Sernett (Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) and junior Samantha Gregory (Huntsville, Ala./Catholic) joined Lewer with nine digs.  Sophomore Leah Pelzel (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added 40 assists.

Against Mount Union, Lewer smashed 12 kills without an error to lead the offense.  Pelzel had team-highs of 32 assists and 15 digs, with sophomore Morgan Williams (Fenton, Mich./Powers Catholic) recorded a team-high four block solos.  Junior Amanda Jevons (Henderson, Nev./Rancho) added three block solos.

Rose-Hulman returns to action on Wednesday with a home matchup against Hanover College that will also serve as the team's Pink Night fundraiser for the local cancer survivor organization.  The Engineers stand 18-7 overall this season.
