TERRE HAUTE, IND. --
DePauw University came back from a 2-1 set deficit to defeat Rose-Hulman
Institute of Technology in five sets Monday night.
After losing the first set
18-25, the Engineers fought back to win the next two sets of the match, 25-22,
and 25-20. Rose-Hulman had trouble finishing off the Tigers as they
dropped the next set 25-20 and the deciding fifth set 16-14.
Freshman Anna Lewer
(Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) led the Engineers as she smashed 15 kills in
the match. Junior Amanda Jevons (Henderson, Nev./Rancho)
contributed 11 kills of her own. Lewer and Jevons also led the team with
three aces.
Senior Kate Sernett (Crystal
Lake, Ill/Marian Central Catholic) paced Rose-Hulman defensively as she led
the team with 28 digs. Lewer chipped in 21 digs of her own.
Sophomore Leah Pelzel
(Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) and junior Samantha Gregory
(Huntsville, Ala/Catholic) also rounded out the defensive effort with 15
digs each. Pelzel also led the team with 39 assists on the night.
Rose-Hulman is in action again
Thursday as they travel to Transylvania for a Heartland Collegiate Athletic
Conference match-up.
