  Rose-Hulman News Volleyball Team Sweeps Saturday's Matches, Improves to 16-5
 

Anna Lewer led The Engineers Offensively Saturday as she smashed a total of 21 kills in the two matches.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology defeated Manchester and Cincinnati Christian to improve its school record winning streak to eight matches and its overall record to 16-5 on Saturday.

The Fightin' Engineers increased their Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference record to 3-0 with the Manchester win.

In the first match, Rose-Hulman defeated the Spartans in four sets, 25-14, 16-25, 25-17, 25-16.  Freshman Anna Lewer (Indianapolis, Ind/Lutheran) led the Engineers as she smashed 12 kills in the contest.  She also picked up 15 digs and had five block assists. 

Sophomore Morgan Williams (Fenton, Mich./Power Catholic) and junior Amanda Jevons (Henderson, Nev./Rancho) also contributed nine kills and Williams added five block assists. 

Junior Samantha Gregory (Huntsville, Ala,/Catholic) led the defense as she picked up 18 digs.  Sophomore Leah Pelzel (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) helped defensively with 16 digs.  Pelzel also picked up 34 assists. 

In the second contest, the Engineers defeated Cincinnati Christian 25-23, 25-17, 25-17.  Lewer again led the offensive attack with nine kills.  She was helped out by sophomore Karah Hickman (Hobart, Ind) who picked up eight kills. 

Pelzel picked up 24 assists in the match as she also led the defense with 14 digs.  Gregory picked up 12 digs of her own. 

Freshman Priscilla Magee (Princeton, Ind.) led the team serving as she picked up four aces in the contest.  Jevons picked up three aces of her own.

Rose-Hulman hosts DePauw University on Monday at 7 p.m. at Hulbert Arena.
