  Rose-Hulman News Two School Records, Three Event Wins, 17 Top-Five Efforts Lead Rose-Hulman Track and Field at DePauw
 

The versatile P.J. Schulthies won the high jump title at DePauw after competing in shot put earlier this season.

GREENCASTLE, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology combined for two school records, three event victories and 17 top-five finishes in a strong performance at DePauw University on Saturday.

The men's 4-x-400 meter relay team of freshman Brent Austgen (Cedar Lake/Hanover Central), junior Paul Bouagnon (St. Charles, Ill./Burlington Central), senior Travis Vanderberg (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) and sophomore Sutton Coleman (Lebanon, Va.) highlighted the first-place efforts with a victory in a time of 3:24.94.

Other winners included freshman Liz Evans (Bicknell/North Knox) with a women's high jump leap of 5' 7 1/4" at the facility that she will compete during the 2010 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, and sophomore P.J. Schulthies (Dubois/Northeast Dubois) in the men's high jump (6' 4 3/4").

Schulthies led a one-two-three sweep in the men's high jump for Rose-Hulman.  Sophomore Jaret May (Shakamak) leaped 6' 2 3/4" for runner-up honors, with freshman Chris Good (Bloomington/Edgewood) coming home third at 5' 10 3/4".

School record performances on the afternoon included a women's 55-meter high hurdles mark of 9.24 seconds for freshman Gloria Boxell (Zionsville/Covenant Christian) and a women's pole vault leap of 10' 0" for freshman Tanya Colonna (Brecksville, Ohio).

Other second-place finishers for Rose-Hulman included freshman Devon Hardman (Mitchell) with a women's high jump leap of 5' 1", and Coleman, with a men's triple jump leap of 46' 4".

Senior Satomi Kaminaga (Tokyo, Japan/American) tallied two third-place efforts in jumping events with marks of 15' 3" in the long jump and 33' 4 3/4" in the triple jump.  Other third-place performances were turned in by freshman Creasy Clauser (Crawfordsville/ Southmont) in the 800-meter run (2:23.96) and senior Travis Vanderberg (Kansas City, Mo./Park Hill) in the 400-meter run (52.12).

Freshman pole vaulter Collin Crowson (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) recorded a collegiate best leap of 14' 3 1/4" to place fourth individually.  Fifth-place finishers included freshman Josh Selig (Scipio/Jennings County) in the 200-meter dash (23.38), senior Michael Burris (Terre Haute/North) in the 55-high hurdles (8.14), and junior Katherine Quigg (Chillicothe, Ill./Illinois Valley Central) in the 3,000-meter run.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at the second consecutive DePauw University Invitational next Saturday at 11 a.m. in Greencastle.
