Three Event Wins, Four School Records, 10 All-SCAC Performances Highlight Swimming Championships

Adam Effinger earned honorable mention All-American honors to lead the Engineers to a successful 2005-06 year.

As the Rose-Hulman swimming and diving team opens up the 2006-07 season, the Engineers look to make a splash as they enter the Bluegrass Mountain Conference.  Rose-Hulman returns a solid core of swimmers on the men’s side and the women add fresh new faces to continue developing history of their own.  Both teams will look to Coach Michael Caruso (5th year) for yet another successful season.  Coach Caruso will once again be assisted by Klynt Gerde (3rd season) and Diving Coach Carey Stapleton (5th season).

The women return a small but very competitive team led by senior Elaine Kratz (Telford, PA).  Kratz currently holds or is a part of five school records.  Junior Rachel Selby (Crawfordsville, IN) looks to dominate on the diving boards after a successful junior season.  The women also look to receive contributions from senior Heidi Rorick (Monroeville, IN) and freshmen Stephanie Hance (Noblesville, IN) and Deborah Aleksa (Glendale, AZ).

The men return perhaps the strongest group of swimmers in the history of the program.  Junior honorable mention All-American Adam Effinger (Plainfield, IN) had one of the most productive seasons in the history of Rose-Hulman swimming program.  Adam won two events (100 Fly, 200 Fly) at Rose-Hulman’s final season in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).  He then went on to place 9th and 15th respectively in the 100 & 200 Butterfly at NCAA Division III nationals.  Not to be outdone Adam is joined by returning sophomore Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo, IN) who was a relay all-conference & three-time individual all-conference (SCAC) swimmer. Steven finished second in the 500 & 200 Freestyle and capped off his conference meet with an exciting and record breaking first place finish in the 1,650 Freestyle.  Other top returnees include senior Jeff Andes (Celebration FL), juniors Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, AL) and Zach Tatlock (Shelbyville, IN), sophomores Nicholas Lee (Bryan, TX) and Matthew Melton (Griffith, IN) and freshman Brian Yount (Bloomington, IL) and Clayton Shotwell (Arcadia, IN).
