GREENCASTLE,
IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology swimming and
diving teams combined for three victories and one school record
at nationally ranked DePauw University on Wednesday night.
Sophomore
Stephanie Hance (Noblesville) tallied the school record with a
time of 2:27.52 in the 200-yard butterfly to capture second-place
honors.
Event winners for
the Engineers included Hance in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of
5:48.60; senior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala.) with a time
of 2:02.37 in the 200-yard butterfly; and junior Steven Vande
Lune (Kokomo) in the 500-freestyle with a season-best time of
5:03.74.
The Engineers
combined to earn nine runner-up finishes on the evening.
Freshman Michael Gerdov (Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai Stevenson)
paced the effort with 227.65 points in one-meter diving and 236.60
in three-meter diving.
Senior Adam
Effinger (Plainfield) joined Vande Lune with two second-place
performances. Effinger placed second in the 100-butterfly with
a time of 53.46 seconds, while Vande Lune placed second in the
200-freestyle in 1:50.17. The duo joined Sorensen and junior
Nick Lee (Bryan, Texas) with a second-place in the 200-freestyle
relay in a time of 1:30.88.
On the women's
side, Rose-Hulman earned four second-place efforts, paced by the
Hance school record in the 200-butterfly. Other runner-up
finishes were earned by senior Anita Isch (Buffalo, Minn.) with a
time of 58.21 in the 100-freestyle; freshman Caitlin Kohli (Lima,
Ohio/Bath) with a time of 2:08.86 in the 200-freestyle; and
sophomore Deb Aleksa (Glendale, Ariz./Dear Valley) with an effort of
11:50.51 in the 1,000-freestyle.
Rose-Hulman returns
to action at the Illinois Wesleyan University Diving Invitational on
Feb. 9. The swimming portion of the team will compete in the
College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships for the
first time on Feb. 14-16 at Carthage College.
