Adam Effinger earned four first place finishes on
Senior Day on Saturday afternoon |
TERRE HAUTE,
IND. -- The Rose-Hulman men's and women's swimming squads
racked up 14 first place finishes in a tri-meet with HCAC
opponent Transylvania University and Butler University on
Saturday afternoon.
The men's squad
defeated Transylvania 191-108 in the HCAC duel meet while the women
fell 154-120 to the Pioneers and 144-129 to Butler.
For the men,
seniors Adam Effinger (Plainfield) and Nick Lee (Bryan,
Texas) each earned four first place finishes on Senior Day for
the Engineer swimming squads.
Lee was a member of
the winning 400-yard medley relay (3:46.11), and captured top honors
in the 100-yard backstroke (55.88), 50-yard freestyle (22.86), and
100-yard freestyle (49.77) to round out the afternoon.
Effinger earned two
individual first place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.01
and 200-yard butterfly with a winning mark of 1:59.10.
Effinger was also a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay and
800-yard freestyle relay (7:20.94).
Junior Steven
Vande Lune (Kokomo) collected three first place finishes on the
afternoon by winning the 1650-yard freestyle in 17:25.42, capturing
the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.68, and being a member of the first
place 800-yard freestyle relay.
Other winners for
the Engineer men included senior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise,
Ala./Daleville) and sophomore Brian Yount (Bloomington, Ill.).
Sorensen earned a
pair of first place finishes in the 400-yard individual medley
(4:28.79) and 800-meter freestyle relay and took second in the
200-yard freestyle (1:51.42) and 200-yard butterfly.
Yount collected an
individual win in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.36 and was a member
of the winning 800-yard freestyle relay.
On the women's
side, freshman Katie Trella (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine Township)
finished the afternoon with a win in the 1650-yard freestyle in
19:18.16 and took second place in the 500-yard freestyle in a time
of 5:33.26.
Sophomore
Stephanie Hance (Noblesville) finished with the afternoon with a
trio of strong individual performances, earning a pair of second
place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.49) and 200-yard
backstroke (2:23.02), as well as earning a third place finish in the
200-yard butterfly (2:42.05).
In the diving
events, sophomore Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) swept both
the 1 meter and 3 meter events, posting winning scores of 163.10 and
146.90.
The Engineer swim
squads will return to action on Saturday, January 26, when they
travel to the University of Evansville for a tri-meet with the host
Purple Aces and Vincennes University. The meet is scheduled to
begin at 1:00 p.m.
