  Rose-Hulman News Engineers Earn Six Firsts In Loss To Div. I Evansville

Adam Effinger captured first place in the 100 yard butterfly for the Engineers.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. --  The Rose-Hulman men's and women's swimming team both had strong showings against Division I Evansville on Wednesday night.

The men's squad earned five first place finishes in their 149-94 loss and were led by senior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala./Daleville) who took first place in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.21) and 500-yard freestyle (4:59.16).

Sorensen also swam a leg of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay that included senior Adam Effinger (Plainfield), junior Nick Lee (Bryan, Texas), and sophomore Brian Yount (Bloomington, Ill.).

Effinger and Lee each captured individual event wins with Effinger taking the 100-yard butterfly in 53.71 and Lee winning the 50-yard freestyle in 23.09.

Junior Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo) earned a pair of second place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:53.09 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.95.

On the women's side, Evansville defeated the Engineers by a final tally of 187-52.

Senior Anita Isch (Buffalo, Minn.) captured the women's lone first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle in a winning time of 57.43.  Isch also took second place in the 50-yard freestyle in 26.67.

Freshman Katie Trella (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine Township) swam the second fastest time in Rose-Hulman women's swimming history in the 1000-yard freestyle, taking second place in a time of 11:23.67.

The Rose-Hulman swimming teams will return to action on Saturday, January 12, when they compete against Transylvania and Butler at the SRC Pool for Senior Day.
