Steven Vande Lune won two events at the Millikin duel meet on Saturday.

DECATUR, ILL. -- The Rose-Hulman men's and women's swimming teams claimed nine first place finishes in a duel meet at Millikin on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Adam Effinger (Plainfield) and junior Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo) each claimed individual wins as well as a relay victory to lead the Engineers.

Effinger won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 53.59 and was a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team.  Vande Lune took the 1000-yard freestyle event in a winning time of 10:54.33 and was also a leg of the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Other top finishers for the Rose-Hulman men included senior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala./Daleville) who won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:52.67 and completed the 100-yard freestyle in 50.24 to capture second place, while fellow senior Zach Tatlock (Shelbyville) took first place in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.61. 

The winning 400-yard freestyle relay posted a time of 3:23.98 and included senior John Whitten (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit), sophomore Brian Yount (Bloomington, Ill.), Effinger, and Vande Lune.

Second place finishers for Rose-Hulman were sophomore Clayton Shotwell (Arcadia/Hamilton Heights) in the 100-yard backstroke,  freshman Andrew Ulrey (North Oaks, Minn./Mounds View) in the 1000-yard freestyle, and Yount in the 50-yard freestyle.

The Engineer women's squad was led by senior Anita Isch (Buffalo, Minn.) who finished the meet with a pair of first place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:07.77 and the 100-yard freestyle in 59.31.

Sophomore Stephanie Hance (Noblesville) and fresman Katie Trella (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine Township) also captured event wins for Rose-Hulman.  Hance took first place in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:06.40, while Trella won the 1000-yard freestyle in 11:49.03.

Freshman Emily Meyer (Chicago, Ill./Whitney Young) and Heather Weist (Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove) each earned second place finishes for Rose-Hulman, with Meyer taking second in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:23.50 and Weist finishing 200-yard individual medley in 2:29.09.

The Fightin' Engineer swimming teams will return to the SRC pool on Wednesday, January 9, when they take on the University of Evansville Purple Aces.
