  Rose-Hulman News Engineers Enjoy Success at DePauw, Wabash

Adam Effinger had three top 12 finishes at DePauw.

GREENCASTLE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology men's and women's swimming and diving teams enjoyed success at DePauw and Wabash this weekend.

The diving portion of the squad competed in the Wabash Diving Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Crawfordsville. 

Freshman Michael Gerdov (Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai Stevenson) set a school record with 370 points on 11 dives in the one-meter competition to place third overall.  Sophomore Sam Danesis (Akron, Ohio/Revere) added a second-place finish in the women's one-meter competition.

The nationally competitive DePauw Invitational featured finishes of eighth for the Engineer men's squad and 11th for the women.  The Engineer relay teams led the effort with a sixth-place in the 800-freestyle (7:45.39) and seventh-place efforts in the 400-freestyle (3:22.39) and 400-medley (3:52.65).

Individually, senior Adam Effinger (Plainfield) paced the men's squad with three top 12 finishes.  Effinger came home eighth in the 200-butterfly (2:06.90), 10th in the 100-butterfly (54.60) and 12th in the 200-individual medley (2:07.68).

Junior Nick Lee (Bryan, Texas) added a ninth-place effort in the 100-backstroke in a time of 57.94, while senior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala.) placed 12th in the 100-butterfly in 55.49.

On the women's side, sophomore Stephanie Hance (Noblesville) compiled three top 16 efforts to lead the effort.  Hance placed ninth in the 100-backstroke (1:05.95), 14th in the 100-butterfly (1:06.91) and 14th in the 200-butterfly (2:32.50).

Sophomore Deb Aleksa (Glendale, Ariz./Dear Valley) added 15th place efforts in the 400-individual medley (5:18.08) and the 200-breaststroke (2:55.06), while senior Anita Isch (Buffalo, Minn.) was 15th in the 50-freestyle (26.87) and 16th in the 100-freestyle (58.87).

Freshman Katie Trella (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine Township) contributed a solid 11th place effort in the 1,650-freestyle in a time of 19:38.06.

Rose-Hulman returns to action with a dual meet at Millikin next weekend.
