CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute
of Technology men's and women's swimming teams finished eighth
of nine squads in both genders.
The Engineer men's team was led by seniors Adam Effinger
(Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield) and Jacob Sorensen
(Enterprise, Ala./Daleville).
Effinger had Rose-Hulman's best finish in either gender with a
third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 53.57.
Effinger also had another scoring effort for Rose-Hulman by
placing 15th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.45.
Sorensen finished the invitational with three top ten finishes
with a fifth place effort in the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.66),
an eighth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.78), and
a tenth place finish in the 200-yard individual medley
(2:06.42).
Other scoring efforts included a 15th place finish by sophomore
Brian Yount (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) in the
200-yard backstroke in 2:12.93 and junior Steven Vande Lune
(Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) finishing 16th in the 500-yard
freestyle in a time of 5:06.94.
For the Engineer women, freshman Katie Trella (Des Plaines,
Ill./Maine Township) had three top 15 finishes to lead the
scoring efforts. Trella finished tenth in the 1650-yard
freestyle in 19:37.08, a pair of 14th place finishes in the
200-yard freestyle (2:08.42) and 500-yard freestyle (5:45.98).
Junior Stephanie Hance (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville)
also finished the meet with a trio of top 15 finishes by
finishing eighth in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of
2:30.94, 13th in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.43, and
completed the 200-yard backstroke in 2:22.28 for a 14th place
effort.
The Fightin' Engineers will return to the pool when they travel
to Greencastle, Ind. to compete in the DePauw Invitational on
November 30th and December 1st.
