Steven Vande Lune won the 1,000-yard freestyle.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. -- The Rose-Hulman men’s swimming team finished second, while the Engineer women finished third at the Wabash College Tri-Meet on Saturday afternoon. 

The Rose-Hulman women finished the day with two second place finishes and six third place finishes. 

Freshman Katie Trella (Des Plaines, Ill.) captured second place finishes in the 1000 yard freestyle (11:46.21) and 500 yard freestyle (5:40.35) to lead the Engineer efforts.  The 1,000-freestyle time ranks third in school history, while the 500-freestyle effort stands fourth all-time.

Rose-Hulman got third place finishes from the 400 yard medley relay team of sophomore Stephanie Hance (Noblesville, Ind.), freshman Amber Knust (Ferdinand, Ind.), sophomore Deb Aleksa (Glendale, Ariz.), and freshman Caitlin Kohli (Lima, Ohio) in 4:46.68, senior Anita Isch (Buffalo, Minn.) in the 100 yard freestyle in 58.40, Hance in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:21.63, Aleksa in the 200 yard breaststroke in a time of 2:50.66, and the 400 yard freestyle relay team of freshman Heather Weist (Arlington Heights, Ill.), Hance, Trella, and Isch in a time of 4:02.42. 

On the men’s side, the Engineers had an individual champion, four second place finishes, and a third place finish on the afternoon. 

Junior Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo, Ind.) was Rose-Hulman’s lone event winner capturing first place in the 1000 yard freestyle in a winning time of 10:47.55. 

Seniors Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala.) and Adam Effinger (Plainfield, Ind.) finished second in their respective events for the Enginners.  Sorensen finished with a time of 2:03.64 in the 200 yard butterfly, while Effinger finished the 100 yard freestyle in a time of 50.64. 

Freshman Michael Gerdov (Lincolnshire, Ill.)  took second place in 3-meter diving with a total score of 206.35.  The other second place finish for Rose-Hulman came in the 400 yard freestyle relay with the team of junior Nick Lee (Bryan, Texas), Sorensen, Effinger, and Vande Lune finishing in a time of 3:22.38. 

The Engineers third place finish came in the 50 yard freestyle, when Lee finished in a time of 23.00. 

The Rose-Hulman swim teams will be back in action on Saturday, November 10, when they host Lindenwood University at 1 p.m.
