Adam Effinger Earns Two Honorable Mention All-American Awards at NCAA III Swimming Championships

Adam Effinger (position 1) won the consolation final in the 100-yard butterfly to earn honorable mention All-American honors.

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology sophomore Adam Effinger (Plainfield) earned a pair of honorable mention All-American honors at the 2006 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneapolis.

Effinger, the only competitor from an Indiana college at the Division III nationals, established a school record in the 100-butterfly to finish ninth in the nation in Friday’s finals. His time of 50.19 seconds marked the winning time in Effinger’s consolation final.

He added a 15th-place finish in the 200-butterfly with another school record time of 1:53.35. Both times trimmed more than 1/3 of a second from Effinger’s previous career best efforts.

On Friday, Effinger opened his nationals performance with a time of 21.65 seconds in the 50-freestyle to finish 48th in a personal best time.

Effinger’s performance continues a tradition of excellence at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. Matt Smith claimed a national championship in the 100-breaststroke in 2003 to highlight a career that featured four All-American awards. Sean Valentine earned a pair of All-American honors in 1999, in the 50-freestyle and the 100-breaststroke.
