11 First-Place Efforts Pace Swimming Team vs. Millikin

Steven Vande Lune brought home top honors in the
50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.16 seconds.

TERRE HAUTE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology captured eight individual men's victories and three women's wins to highlight a duel meet against Millikin University at the Sports and Recreation Center on Saturday.

The men captured a 134-60 victory over Millikin, while the women dropped a 140-61 decision.

Freshman Brian Yount (Bloomington, Ill.) paced the Engineers with two first-place efforts.  Yount captured the 1,000-freestyle in a time of 10:56.40 and won the 100-freestyle in 52.75 seconds.

Other individual winners for the Engineers included junior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala.) with a time of 55.13 in the 100-butterfly; sophomore Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo) with a 50-freestyle time of 23.16 seconds; and sophomore Nick Lee (Bryan, Texas) with a 500-freestyle time of 5:02.74.

The winning continued with the efforts of senior Jeff Andes (Celebration, Fla./Gateway) in the 100-backstroke (1:02.26) and junior John Whitten (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) with a 200-individual medley time of 2:15.45; and the 200-medley relay team of Lee, junior Adam Effinger (Plainfield), Sorensen and Whitten in 1:44.28.

On the women's side, event winners included senior Elaine Kratz (Telford, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) with a time of 27.16 in the 50-freestyle; freshman Stephanie Hance (Noblesville) with a 1:04.63 in the 100-backstroke; and the 200-freestyle relay team of Kratz, Hance, freshman Deborah Aleksa (Glendale, Ariz./Dear Valley) and senior Heidi Rorick (Monroeville, Ind./Dwenger) with a time of 1:52.63 in the 200-freestyle relay.

The Rose-Hulman season continues with a match at Transylvania on Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.
