Engineers Record 11 Top 10 Individual Finishes at DePauw

Adam Effinger led the Engineer effort with a second place in the 100-butterfly and a third place relay score.

GREENCASTLE, IND. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology compiled a total of 11 top 10 finishes at the DePauw University Swimming Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

Junior Adam Effinger (Plainfield) led the seven individual men's efforts with a second-place finish in the 100-butterfly in a time of 51.78 seconds.  Effinger also placed ninth in the 100-breaststroke in a time of 1:04.95.

Sophomore Nick Lee (Bryan, Texas) joined Effinger with two top 10 efforts.  Lee came home ninth in the 200-backstroke (2:06.21) and eighth in the 50-freestyle (22.93 seconds).

Freshman Landry Carbo (Lafayette, La.) pitched in with a seventh-place effort in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:08.96.  Junior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala.) finished eighth in the 400-individual medley in 4:48.72, while sophomore Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo) placed ninth in the 500-freestyle in 5:06.59.

Two relay teams recorded top-five efforts to bolster the team score.  Lee, Effinger, Vande Lune and Sorensen combined for a third in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:19.57, and the team of Effinger, freshman Chris Routh (Muncie/Yorktown), Sorensen and Lee placed fifth in the 200-freestyle relay in 1:31.32.

On the women's side, freshman Stephanie Hance (Noblesville) led the way with two top 10 efforts.  Hance came home sixth in the 200-backstroke (2:21.17) and added a seventh in the 100-backstroke (1:06.26).

Freshman Deborah Aleksa (Glendale, Ariz./Dear Valley) contributed a pair of ninth-place finishes to the team score.  Aleksa was ninth in the 200-individual medley (2:26.92) and the 1,650-freestyle (1:06.34).

The Rose-Hulman season continues with a home match against Millikin on Dec. 9 at the Sports and Recreation Center.
