Solid Performances Highlight Season Opening Lindenwood Invitational

Adam Effinger led the way in the 100-butterfly with an impressive early season time of 52.76 seconds.

ST. PETER'S, MO. – Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology opened the season with a solid performance at the unscored Lindenwood University Swimming and Diving Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Adam Effinger (Plainfield) recorded a time of 52.76 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly to lead the Engineer effort.  Effinger missed the NCAA Division III provisional national qualifying time by just 1.4 seconds in the season opening meet.

On the men's side, other strong performances were recorded by junior Jacob Sorensen (Enterprise, Ala.) with a time of 2:08.12 in the 100-yard individual medley; sophomore Steven Vande Lune (Kokomo) with a time of 11:30.79 in the 1,000-freestyle; and sophomore diver Matthew Melton (Griffith) with team-high scores of 151.35 in one-meter diving and 162.35 in three-meter.

On the women's side, freshman Deborah Aleksa (Glendale, Ariz./Dear Valley) tallied the second-best 1,000-yard freestyle effort in school history with a time of 11:53.80.  Senior Elaine Kratz (Telford, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) had team-best performances in two events, the 50-yard freestyle (27.06) and the 100-freestyle (1:01.76).

The Engineers return to action at the Rose-Hulman Relays on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Sports and Recreation Center Natatorium.
