CINCINNATI, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology kept its hope of making the Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference Tournament alive after a 6-3 victory and a 7-5
loss to the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.
Rose-Hulman needs Hanover to sweep Manchester on Wednesday
and have Defiance sweep Bluffton in a make-up twinbill this week to
qualify for the HCAC Tournament.
The Engineers rallied from a 2-1 deficit with
five runs in its final at bat to win the opener by a 6-3 score.
Junior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) blasted
a grand slam with two outs in the final inning to lift
Rose-Hulman to its 13th victory of the season.
Yiznitsky led the offense with two hits, five
RBIs, the home run and a double. Junior Ashley
Montgomery (Plainfield), senior Amy Viles (Mooresville)
and freshman Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville, Ky.)
each pitched in with a pair of hits.

Montgomery slapped two singles and scored twice,
Viles had one RBI and scored one run, and Bernthold scored one
run in the victory. Freshman Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph,
Mich.) picked up the pitching win with a seven-inning
complete game with five strikeouts.
In game two, Mount St. Joseph
scored four times in the first and three times in the seventh to earn the 7-5
victory. Freshman Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) had three hits
and scored twice, while tossing the complete game in the circle.
Other offensive contributors included Montgomery with two singles
and one run scored; junior Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin County) with
two hits and one RBI; and senior Nicole Sanders (Montezuma/ Riverton Parke)
with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.
Rose-Hulman stands 13-21 on the season and finished HCAC play
with an 8-8 mark.
