CINCINNATI, OHIO -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology kept its hope of making the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament alive after a 6-3 victory and a 7-5 loss to the College of Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.

Rose-Hulman needs Hanover to sweep Manchester on Wednesday and have Defiance sweep Bluffton in a make-up twinbill this week to qualify for the HCAC Tournament.

The Engineers rallied from a 2-1 deficit with five runs in its final at bat to win the opener by a 6-3 score.  Junior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) blasted a grand slam with two outs in the final inning to lift Rose-Hulman to its 13th victory of the season.

Yiznitsky led the offense with two hits, five RBIs, the home run and a double.  Junior Ashley Montgomery (Plainfield), senior Amy Viles (Mooresville) and freshman Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville, Ky.) each pitched in with a pair of hits.

Nicole Sanders smashed a double
and drove home two runs in the nightcap.

Montgomery slapped two singles and scored twice, Viles had one RBI and scored one run, and Bernthold scored one run in the victory.  Freshman Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.) picked up the pitching win with a seven-inning complete game with five strikeouts.

In game two, Mount St. Joseph scored four times in the first and three times in the seventh to earn the 7-5 victory.  Freshman Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) had three hits and scored twice, while tossing the complete game in the circle.

Other offensive contributors included Montgomery with two singles and one run scored; junior Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin County) with two hits and one RBI; and senior Nicole Sanders (Montezuma/ Riverton Parke) with a double, two RBIs and one run scored.

Rose-Hulman stands 13-21 on the season and finished HCAC play with an 8-8 mark.
