ANDERSON, IND. -- Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology scored four times in the final inning in both games, but could not overcome Anderson University in a 6-4 and 5-4 softball doubleheader loss on Tuesday.

The Engineers trailed 6-0 in the opener before scoring four times in the seventh inning to close within the final margin.  Freshmen Darcie Thomas (Brighton, Mich.) and Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.) opened the rally with back-to-back singles, before senior Nicole Sanders (Montezuma/Riverton Parke) brought home both on a double error.

Freshman Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio) then slapped a single and freshman Brittany Bernthold (Fisherville, Ky./Eastern) added a double to score Sanders.  The final run scored on a wild pitch, before a strike out ended the rally.

Senior Amy Viles (Mooresville) and Greer led the Rose-Hulman offense with two hits each in the opener.  Goslee tossed a complete game in the circle with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Anderson leaped to a 5-0 lead before Rose-Hulman scored four times in the seventh to nearly complete the rally.  Bernthold and junior Katie Yiznitsky (Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) each slapped singles to start the rally, then Thomas drove home a run with a single.

Goslee then smashed a two-run double to make the score 5-3 and a single by Sanders closed the Engineers within 5-4.  Anderson closed out the game by forcing a fly out to right field with two outs.

Bernthold, Thomas, Goslee, Sanders and Viles paced the Engineer offense with two hits each for the 11-hit attack in game two.  Thomas allowed five runs and nine hits in a complete game pitching effort.

Rose-Hulman dropped to 8-14 overall and 3-3 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Anderson improved to 12-8 and 6-0 in league play.  The Engineers travel to Franklin for another league twinbill on Thursday night.
