CARLINVILLE, ILL. -- The Rose-Hulman Institute of
Technology softball team split an offensive minded doubleheader
at Blackburn College on Sunday.
The Engineers captured the opener by a 10-6
score, before falling 14-13 in extra innings in the nightcap.
In the opener, junior Katie Yiznitsky
(Hamilton, Ohio/Fairfield) blasted a pair of two-run home
runs and scored three times to lead the 14-hit Rose-Hulman
attack.
Yiznitsky tied a school record by becoming the
fourth player in Rose-Hulman softball history to blast two home
runs in the same game.
Freshman Kristin Greer (Batavia, Ohio)
added three hits, including a double, with one run scored and
one RBI. Junior Katie Frey (Cedar Grove/Franklin
County) and freshman Jordan Goslee (St. Joseph, Mich.)
also pitched in with two hits each.
In the circle, freshman Darcie Thomas

seven strikeouts to earn her first college softball victory.
The wild nightcap featured a grand slam by Frey
to give Rose-Hulman a 7-4 lead in the seventh inning.
Blackburn scored three times in the seventh to force extra
innings with the score tied 7-7.
After both teams scored one run in the eighth,
ninth and 10th innings, the Engineers jumped out to a 13-10 lead
with a three-run 11th frame. Goslee led the spurt with a
key two-run single. Blackburn relied on four runs of its
own in the 11th to earn the victory.
Frey finished 2-5 with the grand slam, while
Goslee had three hits and two runs scored in addition to four
RBIs.
Rose-Hulman stands 7-5 overall on the season and
